Honeymoon Destination: Romantic Paris

With its cinematic decors and eternal charm, Paris attracts lovebirds from all over the world all year round. This is the city of love, fashion and food, also called “the city of Lights”. You would definitely fall in love over again with you Spouse; that is hoping you don’t visit Paris in the winter as the cold can be terrible. But then winter in Paris is equally charming.

Paris has it all; shopping, beautiful monuments, historical sites, good food, pastry shops; the pastries are OMG! Something else.

As Christmas approaches Paris is decked out in lights! Tourists from all over the world visit the Champs-Élysées, the big department stores and all districts of the French capital to enjoy the dazzling end of year illuminations. The “Paris illumine Paris” initiative decorates more than one hundred Parisian streets and squares with festive illuminations.

Fun places and Monuments to discover

The famous Eiffel Tower: An unmissable monument and symbol of the capital, the Eiffel Tower stands 324 m tall, weighing a total of 10,100 tons. Created in 2 years, 2 months and 5 days, it was erected for the Exposition Universelle of 1889 and celebrated its 120th anniversary in 2009.
You can ascend the Eiffel Tower by stairs or lifts. On the 1st floor you will find shops; on the 2nd you will be tempted by the delicious meals on offer at the famous Jules Verne restaurant, 125 m above ground, and finally on the 3rd floor you can stand alongside the clouds and take advantage of an exceptional 360° view!

Notre Dame Cathedral: Notre-Dame de Paris, also known as Notre-Dame Cathedral or simply Notre-Dame, is an historic Roman Rite Catholic Marian cathedral on the eastern half of the Île de la Cité in the fourth arrondissement of Paris. What I personally love about the Notre Dame are the thousands of doves in front of the Cathedral.

Champs-Élysées: The Avenue des Champs-Élysées is a street in Paris, France. With its cinemas, cafés, luxury specialty shops and clipped horse-chestnut trees, the Champs-Élysées is arguably the most famous street ...

Disneyland Paris; Disneyland Paris, originally Euro Disney Resort, is an entertainment resort in Marne-la-Vallée, a new town located 32 km east of the center of Paris and is the most visited attraction in all of France and Europe

La Vallee village- an outlet shopping mall a few kilometres from Paris where you can get last season items for even up to 70% off. http://www.lavalleevillage.com/

Practical Information:

·         You would need a Schengen visa to travel to Paris from Nigeria http://www.france-ng.com/

·         AirFrance operates daily flights to Paris from Abuja and Lagos. http://www.airfrance.com/

·         Paris Hotels are most times really small with tiny beds and the rates are a bit high. Book a hotel that offers free breakfast, it would save you a lot. For hotel bookings try; www.booking.com

·         Get a Tour guide and a map, I recommend “Eye Witness Travel-Paris”. You would find information about even the smallest coffee shop.

·         Moving around in Paris is done majorly through the underground Metro system, you can buy a pass for a few days, with this you can use the metro frequently until the pass expires.

·         Learn a few words in French, the French are proud people and even if they speak English they most times won’t admit it.
